Image source: Getty Images Warren Buffett has famously doubled the US stock market average of 10% across many decades. I want to see how long it would take me to generate £100k in passive income by achieving half his return. Commitment and consistency The first thing to note is that the sooner I start investing, the larger my final portfolio value will be. Billionaire Warren Buffett began his investing journey as a small boy and is now in his 90s. I was still climbing trees at the age Buffett was researching stocks! Stacie Grissom and Sean Wilson lived in New York City for almost a decade, and then the covid-19 pandemic hit.In early 2020, Grissom was pregnant with their first child and working in marketing at BarkBox, while Wilson was working as an orthopedic surgeon in NYC hospitals.Seeing the state of the city during that time made Grissom realize she was ready to move back to Franklin, Indiana, their hometown, which is about 30 miles from downtown Indianapolis.”We had a reevaluation that it’s the people who matter the most, so we wanted to move back to our hometown to be by our…

Image source: Getty Images There are countless shares offering exciting growth potential in the stock market right now. However, I don’t think this trio do, which is why I’m avoiding them like the plague. Losing market share The first stock I’d give a wide berth to is boohoo (LSE: BOO). It’s share price has collapsed from 413p in the June 2020 to just 32p today. That’s a 92% drop! Ouch. What’s gone wrong here? Well, one big problem has been competition, notably from Shein. Last year, the Chinese fast fashion juggernaut reportedly doubled its profits to $2bn. That’s more than…
Former C-Quest Capital (CQC) Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Newcombe was indicted on charges of wire fraud and commodities fraud. Federal prosecutors accused him of falsifying emissions-reduction data to secure millions of carbon credits and over $100 million in investments. Newcombe, who founded C-Quest in 2008, allegedly manipulated data from emission-reduction projects, such as providing cooking stoves in developing countries, to exaggerate their success. Prosecutors claim he covered up lower-than-expected emissions reductions to drive aggressive project growth. The case, known as US v. Newcombe, 24-cr-567, is being handled in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York (Manhattan).…
Customers of genetic data outfit 23andMe may be at greater risk than they realize, suggests a New York Times story that argues the company’s woes could be short-lived compared to the longer-term threats potentially facing those roughly 15 million people if 23andMe can’t continue as a going concern.Certainly, with each passing day, the hope of founder and CEO Anne Wojcicki to turn around 23andMe seems further out of reach. The company, valued at $6 billion when it went public in 2021, is now valued at $150 million. It’s poised to be delisted next month. Press stories aren’t helping. (Would you…

Editor’s Note: This is the final article in a three-part series that challenges the conventional wisdom that stocks always outperform bonds over the long term and that a negative correlation between bonds and stocks leads to effective diversification. In it, Edward McQuarrie draws from his research analyzing US stock and bond records dating back to 1792. CFA Institute Research and Policy Center recently hosted a panel discussion comprising McQuarrie, Rob Arnott, Elroy Dimson, Roger Ibbotson, and Jeremy Siegel. Laurence B. Siegel moderated and Marg Franklin, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute introduced the debate. Edward McQuarrie: In my first two blog posts, I reviewed the…
When Todd Graves and Craig Silvey came up with the idea for a restaurant in southern Louisiana that only sold chicken fingers, they probably didn’t expect to get the lowest grade in a startup-pitching assignment for Silvey’s LSU undergraduate business class — or to get rejected for bank loans when they tried to make it a reality.Yet the concept, which eventually became Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, propelled Graves to his debut Tuesday on the Forbes 400, a ranking of America’s richest people. He’s reportedly the country’s 107th-richest person, with an estimated net worth of $9.5 billion, largely driven by his…
