London-based investment advisory firm Cibus Capital is seeking to raise up to $300 million for a 30-year fund that will deliver high-quality Australian Carbon Credit Units, tapping rising demand for credits from big polluters that are subject to the federal government’s safeguard mechanism.
Gas producers, miners and transport companies have expressed interest in the fund, which – unlike most carbon funds – will reward backers by distributing ACCUs, rather than selling the carbon credits it generates to provide financial returns.
