Groundwork BioAg, a company specializing in carbon removal via mycorrhizal soil fungi, has partnered with carbon credit developer and marketer Anew Climate to commercialize approximately 500,000 tons CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) of carbon credits over a period of three years.
Under this partnership, the two companies will bring to market third-party verified soil carbon removal credits generated through Groundwork’s Rootella Carbon® program, in alignment with Verra’s VM0042 methodology.
The Rootella Carbon® program provides farmers with the chance to access the voluntary carbon market by selling soil CO2 credits from agricultural activities supported by Rootella® mycorrhizal inoculants.
By participating in this program, the farmers receive up to 70% of the net proceeds from credits sales, tapping into a significant new revenue stream.
The program has recently been independently verified by SCS Global, who confirmed that within a year’s timeline, Rootella has permanently sequestered an average of 3.89 tCO₂e/ac based on verified 2023 field data from across 9,000 enrolled acres.
Groundwork CEO Alon Werber believes this support from established global leaders like Anew and third-party validation set the stage for a new mycorrhizal carbon asset class that acts as a key component for climate mitigation and farm resilience.
He stated, “Rootella’s verified high-durability CDR asset class delivers climate impact, resilient farm economics, and confidence for carbon buyers and growers.”
Dan Grotsky, co-founder and chief growth officer of Groundwork, explained that this program has the potential to unlock carbon credit eligibility for 270M acres of reduced tillage in the US, Canada, and Brazil alone, while improving water retention, biodiversity, crop yields, and farm resilience.

On behalf of Anew Climate, Joshua Strauss, President, Environmental Products, highlighted that as the voluntary carbon market evolves, demand for scientifically robust and scalable solutions continues to grow.
He added, “Rootella Carbon delivers on both fronts. By working directly with growers, this program ensures durable, validated, and verified high-value CDR credits while paving the way for solutions that benefit growers, the global supply chain, and the planet.”
