Last month, grave accusations flew against the Los Angeles Clippers and their star player Kawhi Leonard. According to the investigative journalist Pablo Torre, the team has allegedly been involved in a shell corporation scheme that has been reportedly paying its star player under the table for years. It then took a turn after MKBucks11, an X user, reportedly joked about the former Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, being Steve Ballmer’s “burner human.” Torre swiftly started a more thorough examination of Cuban’s most recent tweet, which sparked concerns about outside investors and a deal allegedly worth almost $56 million in carbon credits.
Los Angeles Clippers ’ alleged carbon credit payments sparked new questions in Kawhi Leonard’s contract investigation
Pablo Torre is once again looking into a new Kawhi Leonard-Aspiration allegation. Mark Cuban reportedly joked about Ballmer and wrote on September 17: “If I had to point to the things that the NBA should look at.. it’s going to start with whether Dennis and Steve were the only outside investors when the company needed money so badly…Second thing I would look at was the $50 million deal the Clippers had for carbon credits…”He continued:“Carbon credits are a dicey business, to put it mildly… Did the Clippers pay the money upfront or not? That would be a red flag if they did specifically because it’s a dicey business.”Torre then began researching these allegations on PABLO TORRE FINDS OUT and said:“We’ll get to the first thing Cuban wrote about outside investors in a minute… but the second thing is where things get really wild.”According to records that Pablo Torre exclusively obtained, the Clippers reportedly prepaid $3 million on April 1, 2022. On April 4, the day Kawhi signed a $28 million Aspiration contract, the Clippers allegedly sent an additional $32 million. Torre then criticized Cuban’s defense of Ballmer and noted that $56 million in prepaid carbon credit payments over a few months exactly matches Kawhi’s Aspiration payments. For context, Cuban has always supported Ballmer amidst this controversy. He tried to explain himself on September 15. He claimed that Aspiration had already received a sizable amount of the escrow funds prior to Ballmer’s involvement. He reportedly wrote:“Correction. However, Aspiration took all the escrow money before they were even introduced to Kawhi. This part should have been edited out… Aspire took MOST of the escrow money and the first $20 million BEFORE BALLMER INTRODUCED ASPIRE TO Kawhi’s team…”
Uncle Dennis emerges as key figure in Kawhi Leonard’s Aspiration contract
It all began with Aspiration Partners, who recently went bankrupt. In their bankruptcy documents, Aspiration was forced to reveal all of its existing obligations, including a $7 million payment to “KL2 Aspire LLC,” a company whose management is reportedly listed in Leonard’s name.Once this came to light, Torre began investigating the payments and asking questions about the company. He obtained the contract between Kawhi Leonard and Aspiration Partners. According to those details, Aspiration allegedly paid Leonard $28 million. It reportedly appeared to be a means of raising Kawhi’s pay without having to contend with the limitations of the NBA salary cap. Later, while thoroughly investigating, one name kept popping up- Uncle Dennis. He is reportedly Kawhi Leonard’s uncle and has allegedly played a significant role in the six-time All-Star’s life after the death of his father.According to a provision that was dedicated to him in the documents, every “communication required or permitted under this Agreement” had to be sent to Robertson. Additionally, he was included in the deal as Leonard’s “designated representative.” On the other hand, Pablo Torre is still investigating the whole thing and is yet to uncover the entire case.
