Compact crossovers like the 2025 Honda CR-V remain highly sought after, offering a combination of comfortable seating, good fuel efficiency, and a convenient size for parking.

Honda’s CR-V stands out in this competitive segment due to its practical design and agile handling, securing it a top spot on our list.

Available in front- or all-wheel drive, the nonhybrid CR-V is powered by a 190-hp turbocharged engine (the 204-hp hybrid version is reviewed separately).

While rivals like the Mazda CX-50 boast more luxury and the Ford Bronco Sport is better suited for off-road adventures, the CR-V shines for its pleasant driving experience, reliable build quality, and balanced infotainment system.

These qualities, among others, earned it a place on our 2024 10Best Trucks and SUVs list, as well as a 2024 Editors’ Choice award. It’s likely to secure a repeat spot.

    Pricing and Recommendations

Prices for the 2025 Honda CR-V range from $31,450 to $36,350 depending on the trim:

    • LX: $31,450
    • EX: $33,700
    • EX-L: $36,350

The LX, EX, and EX-L models feature a gas-only engine, while the Sport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring trims are hybrid.

Among the nonhybrid options, we recommend the EX-L for its added amenities, including leather seats, a power tailgate, and a larger touchscreen.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The CR-V comes with a standard 190-hp, 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT and front- or all-wheel drive in the LX, EX, and EX-L models.

Every CR-V also features hill-descent control, which manages speed on steep or slippery slopes. The standard 18-inch wheels provide a smooth ride, though the CR-V lacks the sporty handling of the Mazda CX-50 and Volkswagen Tiguan.

    Acceleration and Performance Metrics

In testing, the nonhybrid EX-L took 8.1 seconds to reach 60 mph, making it slower than the hybrid version. The CVT can make the engine sound loud during heavy acceleration.

    Towing and Payload Capacity

With optional towing accessories, the Honda CR-V can tow up to 1,500 pounds.

    Fuel Economy

The nonhybrid CR-V offers competitive fuel economy, with front-wheel-drive models achieving an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

All-wheel drive reduces these figures slightly, while a real-world test of the all-wheel-drive EX-L recorded 31 mpg on the highway. For further fuel economy details, refer to the EPA’s website.

    Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The CR-V’s interior features a sleek design with a honeycomb-textured dash insert that conceals the air vents. The driver benefits from a partially digital gauge cluster that includes a 7.0-inch display for customizable information.

Honda claims that the CR-V’s front seats are designed to reduce fatigue on long drives, and the vehicle’s improved driving position enhances comfort.

Between the front seats is a spacious center console, and the rear seats offer reclining functionality with an additional 0.6 inches of legroom over the previous CR-V model.

Cargo space is substantial, with 39 cubic feet available behind the second row when the adjustable load floor is in its lowest setting.

    Infotainment and Connectivity

The CR-V’s infotainment system includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen on the LX and EX trims, complete with physical volume and tuning knobs as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The EX-L upgrades to a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though this setup lacks a tuning knob.

It does include a volume knob, built-in navigation, two USB-C ports for rear-seat passengers, and wireless smartphone charging.

    Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The CR-V is equipped with an extensive suite of standard driver-assistance features, including:

    • Forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
    • Lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning
    • Adaptive cruise control

For more details on the CR-V’s crash-test performance, visit the NHTSA and IIHS websites.

    Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The CR-V’s warranty coverage is standard for its class, but Honda adds value with complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first year or 12,000 miles on 2024 and 2025 models.
