Bob Kelly, a motorcycle enthusiast, approached MotoRelic with a unique request. Having been impressed by their previous work on a Kawasaki KZ1000, he wanted a similar custom build of his own. While MotoRelic was up for the challenge, they were determined to avoid repetition.
The chosen donor was a 1978 Kawasaki KZ1000, which was shipped to their Virginia facility from Colorado. The stock bodywork was completely stripped, and a repurposed Royal Enfield Continental GT fuel tank was installed in its place. Extensive modifications were necessary to ensure a proper fit.
The rear end received equal attention, with a revised subframe and a looped section. A custom leather saddle by Counterbalance Cycles was mounted on top, flanked by new side covers.
A bespoke rear fender with a Motone taillight and a handmade front mudguard completed the bodywork.
To enhance the motorcycle’s handling, MotoRelic added a front brake caliper and drilled rotors, along with refurbished and lowered OEM forks.
The Kawasaki Zephyr 1100 has undergone a comprehensive transformation, with upgrades to its suspension, brakes, tires, cockpit, and engine.
Modern Ikon shock absorbers now handle suspension duties, while upgraded brakes and fresh stainless steel spokes with Continental ContiGO! tires enhance performance. The cockpit features a Motogadget Motoscope Tiny dial and Biltwell grips, which are replacing the stock turn signals.
The engine has been rebuilt with new pistons, seals, gaskets, and K&N pod filters. A Delkevic four into one exhaust system and a new paint job by Right A Way Powder Coating and Knight’s Kustoms complete the transformation.
